Quinn, Wong Earn NEWVA Honors

November 24, 2003

AMHERST, MA - Amherst College first-year outside hitter Kristin Quinn (Los Angeles, CA/Harvard-Westlake) was named Second-Team All-New England and New England Rookie of the Year, while senior teammate Lauren Wong (San Francisco, CA/Lick-Wilmerding) was voted Honorable Mention All-New England - both by the New England Women’s Volleyball Association (NEWVA).

Quinn, the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Rookie of the Year, led the conference and finished 11th in the nation in hitting percentage (.420). She was also second in the NESCAC (just ahead of Wong) and 13th in the nation in blocks per game (1.52) and earned All-Tournament honors at both the Western New England College (WNEC) and Wesleyan University Invitational Tournaments. Quinn is the first NEWVA Rookie of the Year selection in Amherst College history.

Wong, a co-captain middle hitter, earned Second-Team All-NESCAC honors after finishing third in the conference with 151 total blocks. She was the only player from the NESCAC named CoSIDA Academic All-District and finishes her collegiate career with 583 kills, 67 aces, 146 digs and 502 total blocks.

Amherst finished the 2003 season at 25-8 and earned its 11th straight postseason appearance, advancing to the NESCAC Tournament quarterfinals before being eliminated by eventual NCAA Quarterfinalist Williams College.
