2002-03 Amherst Women's Tennis Milestones


TEAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Finished with a 15-5 overall record and advanced to their fifth NCAA Final Four in the last six years, held at the University of Redlands (CA), where they fell to eventual national champion Washington & Lee University, 7-2, in the national semifinals.
  • Hosted and won one of two NCAA Northeast Regionals, drawing a first-round bye and blanking Vassar College, 9-0.
  • Went on to defeat DePauw University, 5-4, in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
  • Tied Tufts University for second place at the NESCAC Championship Tournament, hosted by Williams College, April 18-20.
  • Finished the season ranked fourth nationally and second in the Northeast in the final xx Collegiate Tennis Rankings, administered by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
  • During the fall, won their second consecutive New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament, hosted by Amherst, Oct. 18-20.
  • Claimed the outright Little Three Championship with wins over two-time defending national champion Williams, as well as Wesleyan.

INDIVIDUAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS

    Senior Co-Captain Roopali Agarwal (Boxford, MA)
  • Second-Team All-NESCAC (doubles).
  • Along with first-year Hadley Miller, finished the season ranked ninth in the northeast in the final ITA doubles rankings.


  • Senior Co-Captain Paige Lawrence (Katy, TX)
  • Teamed with first-year Kristen Raverta to win the No. 2 doubles championship at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament, hosted by Amherst, Oct. 18-20.


  • Junior Wallis Molchen (Wilmington, DE)
  • Second-Team All-NESCAC (doubles).
  • Teamed with sophomore Erin Murphy to win the No. 3 doubles championship at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament, hosted by Amherst, Oct. 18-20.


  • Sophomore Tristan Hedrick (Walnut Creek, CA)
  • First-Team All-NESCAC (singles).
  • Second-Team All-NESCAC (doubles).
  • Qualified for the NCAA Singles Championships and was eliminated in the first round by DePauw’s Liz Bondi, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
  • Also qualified for the NCAA Doubles Championships with fellow sophomore Rachel Holt. The pair won its first-round match over Washington College’s Ne'ko Browder and Shoko Nakamura, 6-3, 6-3, before losing to Methodist’s Elena Blanina and Carla Simpson, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 in the national quarterfinals.
  • Teamed with Rachel Holt to win the No. 1 doubles championship at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament, hosted by Amherst, Oct. 18-20.
  • Won the B-flight singles bracket at the NESCAC Championship Tournament, hosted by Williams College, April 18-20.
  • Finished the season as the 10th-ranked singles player in the northeast in the final ITA singles rankings.
  • Along with Rachel Holt, ranked seventh in the nation and second in the northeast in the final ITA doubles rankings.


  • Sophomore Rachel Holt (New York, NY)
  • NESCAC Spring All-Academic.
  • Second-Team All-NESCAC (singles/doubles).
  • Qualified for the NCAA Singles Championships, won her first-round match over Emory’s Margaret Moscato, 6-1, 6-3, and was eliminated in the second round by Washington & Lee’s Lindsay Hagerman, 6-1, 6-0.
  • Also qualified for the NCAA Doubles Championships with fellow sophomore Tristan Hedrick. The pair won its first-round match over Washington College’s Ne'ko Browder and Shoko Nakamura, 6-3, 6-3, before losing to Methodist’s Elena Blanina and Carla Simpson, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 in the national quarterfinals.
  • Won the singles championship at the Omni Hotels East Regional Championship, hosted by Bowdoin College, September 27-29.
  • Teamed with Tristan Hedrick to win the No. 1 doubles championship at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament, hosted by Amherst, Oct. 18-20.
  • Finished the season as the 15th-ranked singles player in the nation and third in the northeast in the final ITA singles rankings.
  • Along with Tristan Hedrick, ranked seventh in the nation and second in the northeast in the final ITA doubles rankings.


  • Sophomore Erin Murphy (Yonkers, NY)
  • Second-Team All-NESCAC (doubles).
  • Teamed with junior Wallis Molchen to win the No. 3 doubles championship at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament, hosted by Amherst, Oct. 18-20.


  • First-Year Kristen Raverta (W. Springfield, MA)
  • ITA Northeast Rookie of the Year.
  • NESCAC Rookie of the Year.
  • First-Team All-NESCAC (singles).
  • Qualified for the NCAA Singles Championships and was eliminated in the first round by Washington & Lee’s Erika Proko, 6-2, 6-4.
  • Won the No. 1 singles championship at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament, hosted by Amherst, Oct. 18-20.
  • Teamed with senior co-captain Paige Lawrence to win the No. 2 doubles championship at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament, hosted by Amherst, Oct. 18-20.
  • Finished the season as the 14th-ranked singles player in the nation and second in the northeast in the final ITA singles poll.
