Jeffs Post Third Straight Upset, Down Williams 6-3

AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College women’s tennis team posted its third straight upset victory on Saturday, defeating NESCAC co-champion and Little Three archrival Williams College, 6-3. The Jeffs improved to 13-3 with the win, while the Ephs suffered their second-straight loss and dropped to 11-5.

Amherst juniors Tristan Hedrick (Walnut Creek, CA) and Rachel Holt (New York, NY), both Second-Team All-NESCAC honorees, earned key singles victories as Hedrick downed NESCAC Player of the Year Stephanie Hall (Lawrenceville, NJ) 6-2, 6-2, and Holt upended sophomore Alex Maclennan (Los Angeles, CA) 6-2, 6-3. Amherst First-Team All-NESCAC first-year Katie Hudson (Los Altos, CA) picked up a singles victory as well, beating junior Brittany Binet (St. Helena, CA) 6-3, 6-1, while Amherst senior captain Wallis Molchen (Wilmington, DE) defeated Williams senior Caroline Wasserman (Chappaqua, NY) 6-3, 6-1.

Hedrick and Holt also teamed to down the NESCAC “A” Flight doubles champions, Hall and senior Kate Troy (Wauwautosa, WI), 8-5, and in a rematch of the conference “B” Flight Championship match, Molchen and sophomore Kristen Raverta (W. Springfield, MA) defeated Maclennan and senior Julie Mallory (Littleton, CO), 8-6.

Amherst returns to action tomorrow (Sunday) at 1 p.m. at Wellesley College.
