Head Coach Michelle Morgan

Michelle Morgan

Entering her 26th season (195-107-36 entering 2003), veteran head coach Michelle Morgan has molded the Amherst women's soccer program into one of the finest in the nation, guiding the team to 10 Little Three Championships, three NIAC Tournaments, seven ECAC Tournaments (including the school's first-ever ECAC Championship in 2000), six NCAA Tournament berths and a pair of NCAA Final Four appearances (including a first-ever trip to the NCAA Championship game in 2001). She was a standout field hockey, basketball and softball player at Colorado Women's College before graduating in 1974 and later gained valuable experience as a teaching assistant and three-sport coach at nearby Smith College, earning a master's degree in physical education in 1976. After a brief stint as the Director of Athletics at the Vail Deane School in Hillside, N.J., Morgan took over at Amherst in 1978 and has since coached women's squash, basketball, lacrosse and golf in addition to soccer. She also works as a professor of physical education and athletics and recently served as the athletic department's Senior Women's Administrator. Morgan was named the NSCAA/Adidas New England Coach of the Year after leading the Jeffs to NESCAC and NCAA Regional Championships and a trip to the NCAA Championship game in 2001. In 2002, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) recognized her with the prestigious Women's Committee Award of Excellence.
