2003 Amherst Cross Country Milestones


TEAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Amherst’s women hosted and won both the season-opening Amherst Invitational and the Little Three Championships and posted second-place showings at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational and the NESCAC Championship Meet. They capped the season by qualifying for their third NCAA Championship Meet in the last four years, finishing fifth nationally.
  • Amherst’s men won both the Amherst Invitational and the UMass Dartmouth Invitational, finished second at the Little Three Championships, third at the NESCAC Championship Meet and fourth at the NCAA Regionals, qualifying for their first ever trip to the NCAA Championship Meet, where they finished 24th nationally.
  • The men and women both qualified for the NCAA Championship Meet for the first time in school history.

INDIVIDUAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS

    Senior co-captain Helen Dole (Shelburne Falls, MA)
  • Earned All-ECAC honors with a 12th-place showing at the ECAC Championship Meet.


  • Senior co-captain John Stanton Geddes (Glendale, MO)
  • First-Team CoSIDA Academic All-District 1, finalist for CoSIDA Academic All-America.
  • NESCAC Fall All-Academic.


  • Senior Aly Venti (Newton, MA)
  • Eearned All-New England honors with a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Regionals.
  • Earned First-Team All-NESCAC honors with a fifth-place finish at the NESCAC Championship Meet.
  • Became the first Amherst runner ever to win the Open New England Championship Meet.


  • Senior co-captain Erinn White (Watertown, NY)
  • NESCAC Fall All-Academic.


  • Junior Carter Hamill (Richmond, VA)
  • Earned her ninth All-America award with a fourth-place individual finish at the NCAA Championship Meet, tying Rob Mitchell ’99 for the best-ever showing by an Amherst runner.
  • Eearned All-New England honors with a runner-up finish at the NCAA Regionals.
  • Earned First-Team All-NESCAC honors with a third-place finish at the NESCAC Championship Meet.


  • Junior Matt Katz (Tallahassee, FL)
  • Eearned All-New England honors with a 22nd-place finish at the NCAA Regionals.
  • Earned First-Team All-NESCAC honors with a sixth-place finish at the NESCAC Championship Meet.
  • Claimed first place at the season-opening Amherst Invitational.


  • Junior Jack Morgan (Las Vegas, NV)
  • Eearned All-New England honors with a 34th-place finish at the NCAA Regionals.


  • Junior co-captain Mike Page (Fargo, ND)
  • Eearned All-New England honors with an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Regionals.
  • Earned First-Team All-NESCAC honors with a third-place finish at the NESCAC Championship Meet.
  • NESCAC Fall All-Academic.


  • First-year Shauneen Garrahan (Fairfax Station, VA)
  • Earned All-America honors with a 10th-place finish at the NCAA Championship Meet, tying teammate Carter Hamill for the second-best showing by an Amherst runner.
  • Eearned All-New England honors with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Regionals.
  • Earned First-Team All-NESCAC honors by becoming only the second woman in school history to win the NESCAC Championship Meet.
