Amherst Men Eighth, Women Ninth at ECAC Championships

GRAFTON, MA - Resting their top seven runners for the upcoming NCAA Regional Meet, the Amherst College men’s team tied Wesleyan University for eighth place out of 33 teams, while the women, also resting their top seven, finished ninth out of 31 teams at the ECAC Cross Country Championships, hosted by Tufts University on Saturday.

First-year Cooper Knowlton (Montclair, NJ), who covered the 8k course in 28:07.44, led the men and finished 27th. Sophomore Evan Guiney (Cooperstown, NY) placed 49th (28:34.49) and first-year Robert Boley (East Lansing, MI) placed 52nd (28:37.04), while first-year Richard Wilson (Columbus, OH) placed 69th (28:57.03) and sophomore Adam David (Pine Bush, NY) placed 96th (29:30.98). Sophomore Billy McNitt (Winnetka, IL) and first-year John Babbott (Ojai, CA) finished 116th and 122nd, respectively.

For the women, senior Helen Dole (Shelburne Falls, MA) covered the 6k course in 23:56.20, and captured All-ECAC honors with her 12th-place finish. Junior Alison Rodriguez (Albany, NY) placed 55th (25:14.92), senior Anne McNamara (Chappaqua, NY) placed 68th (25:26.65), first-year Katina Hubbard (San Francisco, CA) placed 75th (25:36.17), and junior Aparna Nancherla (McLean, VA) placed 96th (26:05.56).

Matthew Haley of Keene State College and Heather Rishel of Lebanon Valley College won the men’s and women’s individual titles, while Tufts University and Williams College captured the men’s and women’s team championships.

Amherst returns to action this Saturday, November 15 at the New England Division III Regional Championships, hosted by Bates College at the University of Southern Maine.
