November 1, 2003

MIDDLEBURY, VT - The Amherst womenís and menís cross country teams finished second and third at the NESCAC Championship meet held at Middlebury College on Saturday. First-year Shauneen Garrahan (Fairfax Station, VA) captured the individual title in the womenís race, while junior Mike Page (Fargo, ND) placed third on the menís side, two places behind individual champion Neal Holtschulte of Williams College. Also, Amherst head coach Erik Nedeau was named the womenís NESCAC Coach of the Year.

Junior All-American Carter Hamill (Richmond, VA) finished third with a time of 18:16.3 and senior Aly Venti (Newton, MA) placed fifth at 18:38.3. All three were awarded First-Team All-NESCAC honors for their performances. Senior Erinn White (Watertown, NY) (22nd, 19:31.5) and sophomore Margaret Davis (Richmond, VA) (33rd, 19:45.2) capped the top five.
