Jeffs Blanked by Middlebury, Bowdoin

MIDDLEBURY, VT & AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College men’s tennis team was swept at Middlebury College 7-0 on Saturday, and fell to visiting Bowdoin College 7-0 as well on Sunday, evening its record at 6-6 on the year.

Amherst sophomores Josh Rilla (Westboro, MA) and Danny Babkes (Baltimore, MD) teamed for the squad’s only victory of the weekend, edging the Middlebury tandem of junior Justin Ingoglia and first-year George Mayer, 9-8.

Sophomore Jon Godsall (Toronto, Ontario) and first-year Jeff Lawrence (Irvine, CA) played the closest match against Bowdoin, suffering a narrow 9-7 doubles loss to junior Bucky Jencks and first-year Sam Bitetti.

Amherst returns to action Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Trinity College.
