Perry, Canon, York Named Men's Soccer All-NESCAC

November 14, 2003

AMHERST, MA - Amherst College senior captains Frank Perry (Hartford, CT), Tim Canon (Easthampton, MA) and Mike York (Natick, MA) were each named to the NESCAC Menís Soccer All-Conference Team on Friday. Perry was Amherstís lone first-team selection, while Canon and York were second-team honorees.

Perry is a three-time all-conference pick, earning second-team honors in 2001 and 2002 and NESCAC Rookie of the Year plaudits in 2000. This past season, he led the Jeffs and finished eighth in the conference in scoring with 19 points on nine goals and one assist, and his nine scoring strikes were sixth most in the NESCAC. Perry was a Fourth-Team NSCAA/Adidas All-New England selection as a sophomore and led the Jeffs with eight goals and 17 points and was the leading scorer among first-year players in the NESCAC as a rookie.

Canon, a second-team selection for the third straight season, scored two goals and added two assists while maintaining a constant defensive presence in the midfield. He was a First-Team NSCAA/adidas All-New England pick as a junior, leading the Jeffs to a 13-5-1 overall record (6-3 in conference play), a No. 16 ranking in the final NSCAA/adidas national poll, the outright Little Three Championship and their first appearance in an NCAA regional title game since 1997.

York, who was recently named Academic All-District 1 and a finalist for Academic All-America by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), was the top defender on an Amherst team that posted a 10-3-2 record and rose as high as No. 6 in the NSCAA/adidas national rankings, anchoring a defense that allowed just 13 goals in 15 games - the third-best scoring defense in the NESCAC.
