2003 Amherst Field Hockey Milestones


TEAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Opened the season with a six-game winning streak en route to an 11-5 overall record (6-3 in conference play), rising as high as 13th in the STX/NFHCA Coaches Poll.
  • Secured the No. 4 seed in the NESCAC Postseason Championship Tournament, where they edged visiting No. 5 seed Colby 1-0 in the first round before falling to top-seeded host Middlebury 3-0 in the conference semifinals.
  • Ranked 17th in the final STX/NFHCA Coaches Poll.

INDIVIDUAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS

    Senior Co-Captain Forward Christine Ryan (Summit, NJ)
  • Third-Team STX/NFHCA All-America.
  • First-Team STX/NFHCA Division III All-New England West Region.
  • Second-Team All-NESCAC.
  • Academic All-NESCAC.
  • One of just four field hockey players from the NESCAC named to the Division III North Senior All-Star Team, selected by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). Selected student-athletes participated in the 2003 NFHCA Division III North/South Senior All-Star Game at Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Penn.
  • Finished sixth in the NESCAC in assists per game (0.50) and 15th in points per game (1.13).

  • First-Team All-NESCAC.
  • Second-Team STX/NFHCA Division III All-New England West Region.

  • Junior Goalie K.C. Cosentino (Greenwich, CT)
  • Named the NCAA Division III National Player of the Week by womensfieldhockey.com after leading the Jeffs to a 3-0 win over 17th ranked Springfield College and a 2-1 overtime victory over previously undefeated and fifth-ranked NESCAC rival Bowdoin College.
  • Named NESCAC Player of the Week and ECAC Goaltender of the Week After leading Amherst to a 2-0 start with wins over Wellesley and Tufts. Cosentino tallied eight saves in the Jeffs’ season-opening 2-1 win over visiting Wellesley. She then earned her second career shutout with 11 saves in a 1-0 win at conference rival Tufts, despite being outshot 24-2.
  • Finished sixth in the NESCAC in saves per game (6.07) and seventh in goals against average (1.44).
  • NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad


  • Sophomore Midfielder Katherine Skrivan (St. Louis, MO)
  • Second-Team STX/NFHCA Division III All-New England West Region.
  • Named the Co-NESCAC Player of the Week after scoring the deciding goal in a 3-0 win over 17th-ranked Springfield, and the tying goal in a 2-1 overtime win over fifth-ranked Bowdoin.
  • Finished 14th in the NESCAC in goals per game (0.44) and tied for 18th in points per game (0.94).
