Diamond Named Verizon/CoSIDA District 1 All-Academic for Second Straight Season

November 7, 2002

AMHERST, MA Amherst College senior co-captain goaltender Brooke Diamond (Longmeadow, MA) was one of just two women's soccer players from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) named to the Verizon District 1 College Division All-Academic Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

Diamond, a law, jurisprudence and social thought major, was a First-Team Academic All-District selection as a junior, when she helped lead Amherst to the NESCAC Championship and a first-ever trip to the NCAA title game. She helped captain the Jeffs to an 8-5-2 overall record in 2002 and finished fifth in the NESCAC in goals against average (1.06) and tied for sixth in saves per game (5.29).

Diamond is also a two-year captain on the Amherst women's basketball team, and was named the IWLCA Division III Goaltender of the Year as a First-Team All-American in women's lacrosse.

Colby College senior defender Stephanie Hicks, a first-team selection, was the only other player from the NESCAC voted Academic All-District.
