Sophomore Adrienne Showler notched her first career hat trick against Wesleyan

Showler Named NESCAC Player of the Week

October 21, 2002

AMHERST, MA Amherst College midfielder Adrienne Showler (Ottawa, Ontario) was named the NESCAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week on Monday after notching her first career hat trick in Saturday's 4-0 win over NESCAC rival Wesleyan University. The fleet-footed sophomore has scored in three straight games, all Amherst wins, as the Jeffs improved to 7-4 overall and 5-2 in conference play, moving into a three-way tie with Tufts University and Williams College for first place in the NESCAC.

Showler's trio of scoring strikes at Wesleyan propelled her among the league leaders in a number of offensive statistical categories, including points (1.36 per game) and goals per game (0.64). She now leads the team with seven goals and 15 points on the season, as the Jeffs vie for their second straight trip to the NCAA Tournament, where they advanced all the way to the championship game in 2001.

Six teams are within one game of the top spot in the NESCAC standings. Amherst will host a key matchup against Williams this Saturday at 11 a.m., after a non-league tilt against visiting Mt. Holyoke College Thursday at 4 p.m.
