2002 Amherst Cross Country Milestones


  • Amherstís women finished second at both the season-opening Amherst Invitational (9/7) and the Middlebury College Panther Invitational (9/14), followed by third-place showings at the UMass Dartmouth (9/21) and Tufts University (9/28) Invitationals. Also finished fifth out of 30 teams at the ECAC Championships, and ninth out of 38 teams at the NCAA Regional Championships.
  • Amherstís men won both the Middlebury College Panther Invitational (9/14) and the Tufts University Invitational (9/28). Also finished third at the season-opening Amherst Invitational (9/7) and fourth at UMass Dartmouth (9/21), and capped the season with respective seventh and 11th place finishes at the ECAC Championships and NCAA Regionals.

  • Sophomore Carter Hamill (Richmond, VA)
  • Earned All-America honors for the second consecutive season with a 10th-place finish as Amherstís lone representative at the NCAA Championship Meet, hosted by St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. It was the best finish ever for an Amherst woman.
  • NCAA All-Region.
  • All-New England.
  • First-Team All-NESCAC.
  • Posted runner-up finishes at the each of Amherstís first three meets - the Amherst Invitational, the Middlebury College Panther Invitational and the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
