November 19, 2002

AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College men’s soccer NCAA Northeast Regional Championship game at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., originally slated for Sunday, November 17, but postponed due to inclement weather, has been rescheduled for Wednesday, November 20, at noon. The winner will host Arcadia University, which downed NESCAC Champion Williams College 5-4 on penalty kicks on Monday, in one of four NCAA Quarterfinal matchups on Sunday at 1 p.m.

St. Lawrence’s Sandy MacAllaster Field was covered with nearly three inches of snow and ice on Sunday but has since been cleared and deemed playable. Amherst, which advanced to its first regional championship game since 1997 with a 1-0 win over SUNY Cortland on Saturday, is 13-4-1 overall, having won 10 of its last 11 games.

St. Lawrence improved to 14-1-3 with a 2-1 win over Ithaca College in its regional semifinal on Saturday, advancing to its fifth consecutive Northeast Regional Championship game. The Saints have claimed three of the last four regional titles, and won the NCAA Division III National Championship in 1999.

Wednesday’s game could possibly be Webcast live on the Internet, courtesy of St. Lawrence sports information. If so, a link to the Webcast will be placed on the Amherst athletics homepage, www.amherst.edu/sports, on Wednesday.
