Gannon notched six points in a pair of Amherst wins en route to conference player of the week honors

Gannon Named NESCAC Player of the Week

AMHERST, MA Amherst College first-year forward Joe Gannon (Hanson, MA/Noble & Greenough) was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men's Soccer Player of the Week on Monday after combining for six points in a pair of conference wins over Connecticut and Colby Colleges on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.

The rookie sharpshooter tallied the game-winner in the 71st minute and scored a pair of goals in the Jeffs' 3-2 win over Conn. College. He then torched visiting Colby for a pair of assists en route to a 3-1 Amherst victory, as the Jeffs improved to 5-3-1 overall and 3-3 in conference play, moving them into a tie for sixth place in the NESCAC with Tufts University.

Gannon leads Amherst and is seventh among the conference's scoring leaders with 16 total points on six goals and four assists. He's also sixth in the NESCAC in goals per game (0.67) and eighth in assists per game (0.44).

Gannon had perhaps his best game of the season on Wednesday, October 2nd a 7-1 win over visiting non-league foe Springfield College when he notched his first career hat trick with a trio of first-half scoring strikes.

Amherst returns to action Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Western New England College.
