Amherst Volleyball Falls to Wellesley in 3-2 Thriller
October 19 - The Amherst College women's volleyball team charged out to a two-game lead, but Wellesley College rallied back and knocked off the Jeffs in a 3-2 thriller (27-30, 25-30, 30-23, 30-25, 15-9) in pool play of the 15-team Hall of Fame Tournament on Friday night. Full Story

Volleyball Blanks Westfield State, 3-0
October 16 - Junior Erin Dittus paced the women's volleyball team with a team-high nine kills as host Amherst outlasted Westfield State College in LeFrak Gymnasium on Tuesday night. With the 3-0 win (30-7, 30-15, 30-16), Amherst moved to an overall record of 19-3, while maintaining an 8-2 record in conference play. Meanwhile, the Owls dropped to a 9-10 record with the loss. Jeffs Blank Conn., Fall to Wesleyan
October 13 - The Amherst volleyball team had a chance to lock up the No. 1 seed for the upcoming NESCAC Championship Tournament but couldn't seal the deal as they fell to Wesleyan University, 3-2, after sweeping Connecticut College, 3-0, in NESCAC quad action Saturday at Tufts University. Wesleyan prevailed 30-25, 23-30, 30-18, 28-30, 15-13 in what was the longest and most dramatic NESCAC match of the season, despite a 22-kill, seven-block performance by Amherst senior co-captain outside hitter Erica Hewes. Meanwhile, DeMeules was dominating against Conn. with 22 assists, 10 aces and three kills. Full Story

Evereden Nets 350th Victory in 3-1 Win Over Trinity
October 12 - Amherst head volleyball coach Sue Everden netted her 350th career win with a 3-1 victory over Trinity College as part of a NESCAC quad match at Tufts University on Friday night. The win moved Everden's overall career record to 350-153 in 13 seasons at Amherst, improving the Jeffs' record this season to 17-2 overall and 7-1 in NESAC play and extending their current winning streak to 10 matches. Volleyball Takes Trio of NESCAC Matches at Bowdoin
October 6 - The Amherst College volleyball team improved to 16-2 overall and 6-1 in NESCAC play with a trio of NESCAC quad wins at Bowdoin College on Friday and Saturday. The Jeffs ignited the streak with a 3-1 win over Colby College on Friday night, followed by 3-0 wins over Bates College and host Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon. Senior setter Meredith DeMeules led the way with a combined 64 assists, 43 digs and 15 kills, while first-year setter Annie Hoeksma added 44 assists and 18 kills. Full Story

Volleyball Blanks Trinity, Improves to 13-2
October 3 - The Amherst volleyball team used match-highs of 18 kills and 20 assists, respectively, from senior co-captains Erica Hewes and Meredith DeMeules en route to a 3-0 win in a non-league tilt at NESCAC rival Trinity College on Wednesday. The Jeffs were playing their first match against Trinity since former Amherst player and assistant coach Angie (Povoli) Mills took over as the Bantams' new head coach. Full Story

Women's Volleyball Cruises Past Coast Guard
September 28 - The Amherst College women's volleyball team, fresh off back-to-back wins over Westfield State College and Eastern Connecticut State University Friday night, continued its dominance at this weekend's Amherst Invitational with a 3-0 shutout win over Coast Guard (30-17, 30-13, 30-18). With the win, the Jeffs improved to 12-2 overall, while Coast Guard fell to 7-4. Full Story

Hosts Sweep Westfield St. & Eastern Conn. at Amherst Invite.
September 28 - The host Amherst volleyball team improved to 11-2 overall with a pair of non-conference wins over Westfield State College and Eastern Connecticut State University in first-round action of the Amherst Volleyball Invitational Friday night at LeFrak Gymnasium. The Jeffs swept Westfield St. 3-0 behind a match-high 16-kill performance by senior co-captain outside hitter Erica Hewes. The nightcap brought similar results as the Jeffs blanked Eastern Connecticut with senior co-captain Meredith DeMeules posting her first triple-double of the season with 11 kills, 22 assists and 16 digs. Volleyball Wins 3-2 Nailbiter at Mt. Holyoke
September 27 - The Amherst College volleyball team played its longest match of the season Thursday night and narrowly escaped with a 3-2 victory at non-league foe Mt. Holyoke College. With the win - in which game scores were 28-30, 30-10, 30-21, 27-30 and 15-12 - Amherst improved to 9-2 on the season heading into this weekend's Amherst Invitational Tournament. Full Story

Volleyball Falls to Wesleyan, Downs Tufts at Volleyball Classic
September 22 - The host Jeffs fell short in their bid to claim the championship crown at the 11-team Amherst College Volleyball Classic on Saturday, falling to NESCAC-rival Wesleyan University, 3-0, at 1 p.m., before rebounding with a 3-0 consolation-win over conference-foe Tufts University. M.I.T. went on to win the tournament, on the strength of victories over Trinity College and St. Lawrence University on Friday, and wins over Tufts and Wesleyan on Saturday. Full Story

Volleyball Takes Pair at Amherst Classic
September 21 - The Amherst volleyball team swept a pair of matches to tip off the 11-team Amherst Volleyball Classic on Friday, downing Rhode Island College and NESCAC rival Colby College by matching 3-0 scores. Tournament action will continue on Saturday, with gold, silver and bronze medal bracket matchups and times determined by Friday's results. Full Story

Volleyball Routs Keene St., 3-0
September 19 - The Amherst volleyball team ran its overall record to 5-1 with a 3-0 shutout win over visiting non-league foe Keene State College on Wednesday night. Amherst senior co-captain outside hitter Erica Hewes was nearly unstoppable with a match-high 16 kills and just one error in 19 total attacks, for a whopping .789 hitting percentage. Full Story

Volleyball Falls to Williams, Blanks Middlebury
September 15 - The Amherst College volleyball team, fresh off 3-0 shutout wins over conference rivals Tufts University and Hamilton College Friday night, continued hosting action in this weekend's NESCAC Quad in LeFrak Gymnasium. Amherst suffered through a 3-0 (18-30, 23-30, 24-30) loss to Williams College in the morning, but rebounded with a 3-0 win over Middlebury College (30-22, 30-18, 30-25). Full Story

Volleyball Opens NESCAC Slate With Wins Over Tufts, Hamilton
September 14 - The Amherst volleyball team opened its 2001 conference slate with a pair of convincing 3-0 wins over Tufts University and Hamilton College as part of a NESCAC quad Friday night at LeFrak Gymnasium. Senior outside hitter Erica Hewes led the way 10 kills against Tufts and 14 kills against Hamilton, both match highs. Full Story

Amherst Volleyball Changes Friday Match Times to 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.
September 13 - Amherst College has changed its scheduled starting times for Friday evening's NESCAC volleyball matches against Tufts University and Hamilton College from 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively. The change will allow student-athletes, coaches, parents and fans to attend a candlelight vigil at 10 p.m., tentatively slated for the College's first-year quad.

Volleyball Takes Season-Opener at West. Conn. St., 3-2
September 9 - It took five games, but the Amherst College volleyball team squeaked past non-league rival Western Connecticut State University in its season-opener on Sunday behind a 10-kill, 24-assist performance by senior All-NESCAC setter Meredith DeMeules. Game scores were 30-20, 25-30, 30-24, 29-31 and 15-10 under the NCAA's new rally scoring format. Full Story

Volleyball Eyes Third Straight NESCAC Championship
Sept. 5 - 2001 should be another banner year as Head Coach Sue Everden returns 10 players from last season's NESCAC Championship roster, including All-NESCAC seniors Meredith DeMeules and Erica Hewes at setter and outside hitter. Full Story
