2001-02 Amherst Women's Tennis Milestones

TEAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
*Finished with an 11-7 overall record and advanced to their fifth consecutive NCAA Elite Eight at Sweet Briar (VA) College, where they fell to Emory University, 6-3, in the national quarterfinals.
*Hosted and won the NCAA Northeast Regional for the second straight year with a pair of victories over Wellesley College and Tufts University.
*Finished sixth at the second annual NESCAC Championship Tournament.
*Finished the season ranked seventh nationally and second in the Northeast in the final Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings, administered by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
*During the fall, won first place at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament, hosted by Colby College at Amherst, Oct. 19-21.

INDIVIDUAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Senior Co-Captain Stephanie Fong (Los Altos, CA)
*Division III ITA All-American.
*Earned Second-Team All-NESCAC honors (singles) after advancing to the Flight "A" singles semifinals at the NESCAC Championship Tournament.
*NESCAC Spring All-Academic.
*Qualified for the NCAA Singles Championships and was eliminated in the first round by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Becca Dutton, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (6), 6-4.
*Also qualified for the NCAA Doubles Championships with fellow senior co-captain Heather Cole (Pikesville, MD). The pair dropped its first-round match to the team of Browder and Nakamura from Washington College, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
*In the fall, advanced all the way to the finals of the ITA New England Regional Tournament at Williams College, falling to No. 1 seed Selma Kikic of Williams, 6-7 (4), 6-0, 6-2 in the championship match.
*Finished the season ranked ninth nationally and fourth in the Northeast in singles according to the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
*Finished the season ranked 13th nationally and second in the Northeast in doubles along with teammate Cole.

Senior Co-Captain Heather Cole (Pikesville, MD)
*NESCAC Spring All-Academic.
*Qualified for the NCAA Doubles Championships with fellow senior co-captain Steph Fong. The pair dropped its first-round match to the team of Browder and Nakamura from Washington College, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
*Finished the season ranked 13th nationally and second in the Northeast in doubles along with teammate Fong.

First-Year Rachel Holt (New York, NY)
*Division III ITA All-American.
*ITA National Co-Rookie of the Year.
*ITA Northeast Region Rookie of the Year.
*NESCAC Rookie of the Year.
*Earned Second-Team All-NESCAC honors (singles) after advancing to the Flight "A" singles semifinals at the NESCAC Championship Tournament.
*Qualified for the NCAA Singles Championships and advanced to the second round with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Trinity University's Lindsay Smith, but was eliminated in the second round by Erika Proko of Washington and Lee University, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
*Finished the season ranked 10th nationally and fifth in the Northeast in singles according to the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.

First-Year Tristan Hedrick (Walnut Creek, CA)
*Earned Second-Team All-NESCAC honors (singles) after advancing to the Flight "C" singles semifinals at the NESCAC Championship Tournament.
