Women's Tennis Set to Host NCAA Tournament Northeast Regional
May 7 - The Amherst women's tennis team earned the number-one seed in the NCAA Division III Tournament Northeast Region and will host fourth-seeded Wellesley College Saturday at 10 a.m. Tufts University and the University of Rochester earned the other two seeds and will square off in the afternoon match at 2 p.m. Full Story

Jeffs Fall to Williams, 7-2, Ending Regular Season Play
May 4 - The Amherst women's tennis team ended its regular season play via a 7-2 loss to defending national champion Williams College on Saturday. The Jeffs, who moved their record to 9-6 with the defeat, will prepare for hosting action for the first round of the NCAA Championship Tournament. Full Story

Jeffs Down No. 22 Wellesley, 8-1
April 27 - The seventh-ranked Amherst women's tennis team downed No. 22 Wellesley, 8-1, Saturday afternoon. The Jeffs return to action Saturday at 10 a.m. for a match against visiting NESCAC and Little Three rival Williams College. Full Story

Holt Tabbed Women's Tennis NESCAC Rookie of the Year
April 26 - Rachel Holt was tabbed NESCAC Women's Tennis Rookie of the Year and Second-Team All-NESCAC on Friday. Senior Stephanie Fong and first-year Tristan Hedrick also earned honors for the Jeffs. Full Story

Jeffs Finish Sixth at NESCAC Championship
April 21 - The Amherst women's tennis team, ranked seventh nationally, finished in sixth place at the NESCAC Championship hosted by Middlebury College. Williams, the top-ranked team in the nation, dominated the 11-team meet and took home first place. The Ephs won all three singles and all three doubles brackets on their way to victory. Full Story

Jeffs Hand Visiting Tufts 7-2 Loss
April 17 - Behind singles wins by senior co-captains Steph Fong and Heather Cole, sophomore Wallis Molchen and first-year Rachel Holt, the Amherst women's tennis team downed visiting Tufts University 7-2 on Wednesday. The Jeffs also swept all three doubles matches, improving to 8-5 on the season. Full Story

Middlebury Set to Host NESCAC Women's Tennis Tourney
April 17 - Middlebury College will host the 2002 NESCAC Women's Tennis Championship Friday, April 19 through Sunday, April 21. Williams captured the first conference championship in women's tennis last year with Amherst placing second. The Ephs went on to win the national championship at the 2001 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships. Full Story

Women's Tennis Falls to Emory, Blanks Colby
April 14 - The Amherst women's tennis team hosted a pair of matches over the weekend, falling to second-ranked Emory University, 7-2, on Saturday, before shutting out visiting Colby College, 9-0, on Sunday. In town from Atlanta, Emory swept all three doubles matches en route to its victory over fourth-ranked Amherst. The Jeffs rebounding on Sunday, sweeping all six singles matches and a trio of doubles matches in downing Colby. Full Story

Jeffs Edged at Division I UMass, 5-4
April 11 - The Amherst women's tennis team, ranked fourth nationally in the latest ITA Division III Poll, played its first match on Thursday since returning home from California, falling at Division I crosstown-rival UMass, 5-4. Senior tri-captain Steph Fong, first-year Tristan Hedrick, and junior Roopali Agarwal each posted singles wins for Amherst, which fell to 6-4 with the loss. Full Story

Women's Tennis Concludes California Trip with 7-2 Victory Over Eighth-Ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
March 23 - The fourth-ranked Amherst women's tennis team notched its second straight victory of the spring on Saturday, defeating Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 7-2. The Jeffs notched four singles wins and outlasted the hosts by sweeping the doubles (8-5, 8-6, 8-7), while first-years Tristan Hedrick and Rachel Holt posted convincing victories. Full Story

Women's Tennis Back on Track with 9-0 Win at Chapman
March 21 - The fourth-ranked Amherst women's tennis team notched its first win of the spring on Thursday, blanking host Chapman University, 9-0. The Jeffs swept every set in six singles and three doubles victories, while junior Susanna Burke, sophomore Wallis Molchen and first-year Tristan Hedrick posted a trio of convincing 6-0, 6-0 shutout singles wins. Fourth-Ranked Jeffs Drop Pair in California
March 19 - The fourth-ranked women's tennis team opened its spring slate in California on Sunday and Monday with a pair of tough losses at sixth-ranked Pomona-Pitzer and Division I power Cal State Fullerton, despite a pair of singles wins by first-year phenom Rachel Holt. Full Story

W-Tennis Claims New England Championship
October 21 - Despite an injury to senior tri-captain Stephanie Fong (Los Altos, CA) in the singles competition that left her doubtful for doubles play, the Amherst College women's tennis team came screaming back to nab a close first place finish over Williams College in the 2001 New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament, held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Amherst. W-Tennis Falls at Williams, 5-4
October 13 - In a matchup of two of the premier Division III women's tennis teams in the nation and the top two teams in New England, Williams College edged visiting Amherst College, 5-4, on the strength of four singles wins after falling behind early in doubles play. Full Story

W-Tennis Sweeps Bowdoin & Bates, 9-0
October 7 - The Amherst College women's tennis team swept every match and didn't drop a set in a pair of 9-0 wins over visiting Bowdoin and Bates Colleges on Saturday. The Jeffs improved their fall record to 4-0 with the pair of victories, heading into next Saturday's 11 a.m. dual-match at Williams College. Full Story

September 30 - Stephanie Fong (Los Altos, CA) advanced all the way to the final of the ITA New England Regional Tournament at Williams College this past weekend, highlighting a strong performance from the Amherst College women's tennis team. Full Story

Women's Tennis 2-0 After 9-0 Win At Skidmore
September 16, 2001 - The Amherst College women's tennis team continued its tear through early regular-season opponents on Sunday, visiting Skidmore College and shutting out the host Greyhounds 9-0. The victory improved the Jeffs' fall record to 2-0, after a 5-4 win at Trinity College on Saturday. Full Story

Jeffs Open Fall Slate With 5-4 Win at Trinity
September 15 - The Amherst women's tennis team opened its 2001 fall slate with a narrow 5-4 win at NESCAC rival Trinity College on Saturday. Junior Susanna Burke, senior tri-captain Heather Cole and newcomer Rachel Holt led the way for Amherst with a trio of singles wins. Cole also paired with fellow senior captain Stephanie Fong for a win in No. 1 singles, while Burke and Holt won their No. 3 doubles match. Full Story

Women's Tennis Eyes Fifth Straight NCAA Final Four
September 12 - Despite losing to graduation arguably the best player in school history, All-American Jamie Cohen '01, an astounding fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Final Four seems inevitable for the 2001-02 Amherst women's tennis team. In senior tri-captains Stephanie Fong, Vass Kozoulina and Heather Cole, the Jeffs return a trio of players with three straight Final Four appearances under their belts, including the college's first and only National Championship in 1999.
