Women's Cross Country Qualifies for Nationals With Third Place Regional Showing, Men 10th

WESTFIELD, MA - With five runners earning All-New England honors at Saturday's New England Regional Cross Country Championships at Westfield State College, the Amherst College women's cross country team qualified for its second straight NCAA Championship Meet. The five women who placed among the top 25-first-year Carter Hamill (Richmond, VA), junior Martha Nelson (Bethesda, MD), sophomore Aparna Nancherla (McLean, VA), and seniors Diana Rancourt (Lunenberg, MA) and Becca Woo (Manchester, NH)-led the Jeffs to a third-place team finish, as Amherst posted 86 points, behind first place Middlebury College's 65 and Williams College's 76.

Hamill led the way for the Amherst women, running to a sixth-place, 17:45 finish. She was followed by Nelson's 15th place, 18:08 and Nancherla's 18:13, good for 19th place. Rancourt crossed the line at 18:23, giving her 22nd place, while Woo rounded out the top Jeff finishers with a 25th place, 18:28 day. Senior co-captain Molly Burnett (Norwich, CT) grabbed 42nd place with an 18:53 time, and sophomore Erinn White (Watertown, NY) rounded out the field with a 53rd place 19:05.

The Amherst men, meanwhile, ran to a tenth-place finish with 317 team points, led once again by first-year Matthew Katz (Tallahassee, FL). The men followed Katz's 26:10, 37th place pace, with sophomore John Stanton-Geddes (Glendale, MO) running for 50th place with a 26:24 day, and senior co-captain Ben Kozyak (Coral Gables, FL) grabbing a 26:36, 61st place. First-year Jack Morgan (Las Vegas, NV) pulled in 78th place at 26:56, and junior Carson Taylor (S. Windsor, CT) crossed the line at 27:15, good for 94th place. Finally, co-captain Rusty Ryan (Marblehead, MA) and first-year Zeke Phillips (Newton, MA) ended the day for Amherst, running to a 27:21 98th place and a 27:43 114th place, respectively.

The Amherst women will continue their remarkable run this weekend, when they head to Augustana, IL for the NCAA Division III Championships.
