Women's Cross Country Wins ECAC Championship; Men Second

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - The Amherst College women's cross country team placed five runners in the top-15 to win the ECAC Championship Meet Saturday at Williams College, led by junior Martha Nelson (Bethesda, MD), sophomore Aparna Nancherla (McLean, VA), senior co-captain Molly Burnett (Norwich, CT), sophomore Erinn White (Watertown, NY) and first-year Sarah DeGraaf (Langley, WA) - all of whom earned All-ECAC honors. Amherst's men finished second behind Keene State College on the strength of All-ECAC performances by first-year Matt Katz (Tallahassee, FL) and senior co-captain Ben Kozyak (Coral Gables, FL).

Katz's third-place, 26:46 finish and Kozyak's eighth-place, 27:14 time were trailed by junior Carson Taylor (S. Windsor, CT). Taylor posted a 16th place, 27:29 showing, marking sophomore John Stanton-Geddes (Glendale, MO), who placed 24th place at 27:45. First-year Jack Morgan (Las Vegas, NV) and senior co-captain Rusty Ryan (Marblehead, MA) followed suit, posting 30th and 43rd place finishes and crossing the line at 27:59 and 28:11, respectively. First-year Zeke Phillips (Newton, MA) rounded out the top finishers for the men, coming in at 28:39 for a 56th place showing.

The women tore through the course at a blistering pace. Nelson marked a fifth-place day at 19:06, and Nancherla came in on her heels with a sixth-place 19:24. Burnett was next to cross the line for the Jeffs with a 19:39 performance that was good for eighth place, and White grabbed the 11th-place slot with a 19:50 stretch. Degraaf took 14th place in 20:08, and sophomore Helen Dole (Shelburne Falls, MA) ran to a 20:30, 27th-place mark. Sophomore Alyson Venti (Newton, MA) finished the day for the Jeff women, coming in at 20:38 for 34th place.

This Saturday, the team will head to Westfield State College for the District Meet, before traveling to Augustana, IL, for the NCAA Championships on November 17th.
