Hamill & Nelson Tabbed All-NESCAC

Amherst, MA - Amherst College first-year Carter Hamill (Richmond, VA) and junior Martha Nelson (Bethesda, MD) earned All-NESCAC honors after leading the Jeffs to a third-place finish in the NESCAC Championship Meet. Currently ranked third in New England, the Jeffs head to Williamstown for the ECAC Championships this Saturday at Williams College.

Hamill, a second-team selection, covered the course in 18:30 at the NESCAC Championships, good for a 10th place finish. She was the Jeffs' fastest runner all season long, leading the Amherst pack in every meet except the season-opening Amherst Invitational. Hamill garnered All-New England Honors with her 23rd place finish in 18:40 at the New England Open. Season highlights have thus far have included a third place finish at the Little Three Championships, on the strength of an 18:34 showing, and a sixth place finish at the Tufts Invitational, where she led the way with a time of 18:56.

Nelson, who was also a second-team pick, finished 13th at the NESCAC Championships with a time of 18:42 .She finished fifth at the Amherst Invitational with a time of 19:31, and fifth again at the Little Three Championships with a 19:05 showing . Previously a member of the soccer team, the fall of 2001 was Nelson's first season running cross-country.

Hamilton senior Maggie Hanson was named the 2001 NESCAC Most Outstanding Performer, while Williams' Jenn Campbell and Middlebury's Terry Aldrich earned NESCAC Rookie and Coach of the Year honors, respectively.
