Men's & Women's Cross Country Second at Little Three

MIDDLETOWN, CT - The Amherst College men's and women's cross-country teams headed to Wesleyan University this weekend for the Little Three Championships. Amherst placed second in both men's and women's competition.

In the men's field, Williams College ran away with the victory, scoring 15 points to second-place Amherst's 55 and Wesleyan's 64. The first five individual finishers were from Williams. The first Amherst runner to cross the line was seventh-place finisher Matthew Katz (Tallahassee, FL). Katz, a newcomer, posted another team-leading time with his 27:34 finish. Sophomore John Stanton-Geddes (Glendale, MO) trailed Katz by five seconds, grabbing a ninth-place finish in 27:39. Senior co-captain Ben Kozyak (Coral Gables, FL) posted a 27:43 time, good for 11th place, and rookie Zeke Phillips (Newton, MA) notched 28:07 for a 14th place finish.

Sophomore Michael Page (Fargo, ND), who is recovering from injury, posted a 28:34 time for 21st place, just behind first-year Jack Morgan (Las Vegas, NV) and senior co-captain Rusty Ryan (Marblehead, MA). Morgan carved out 18th place with a 28:25 time, and Ryan followed suit with a time of 28:27, placing 19th for the day. Jeff first-year Cameron Millard (Orono, ME), the 25th place finisher overall, notched a 28:51 finishing time, and paced junior Carson Taylor (S. Windsor, CT), who crossed the line with a 29th place, 29:01 performance. Rookie David Molina (Fairview Park, OH) and senior Martin Keck (Atherton, CA) crossed the line together, with matching 29:44 times, good for 33rd and 34th places, respectively. Rounding out the Jeff outing, junior Alex Lenkoski (Wethersfield, CT) grabbed 45th place in 31:18.

The women ran in a much more competitive field, and came tantalizingly close to a first-place finish. Once again, however, Williams pulled through, staving off the 32-point Jeff performance with a 31-point showing. Wesleyan came in third, with the Cardinal women posting 65 points on the day.

The women were paced by first-year phenom Carter Hamill (Richmond, VA). Hamill grabbed third place overall and took home an 18:34 showing, pacing junior Martha Nelson's (Bethesda, MD) fifth place, 19:05 finish. A trio of seniors were the next to cross the line for the Jeffs. Diana Rancourt (Lunenberg, MA), Rebecca Woo (Manchester, NH) and Emily Lobsenz (Fairfield, CT) took seventh, eighth and ninth places with respective 19:18, 19:24 and 19:25 finishes. Sophomore Aparna Nancherla (McLean, VA) grabbed the 15th slot at the 19:46 mark, leading the way for senior co-captain Molly Burnett (Norwich, CT), junior Alison Dimon (Rye, NY) and sophomore Helen Dole (Shelburne Falls, MA). Burnett, Dimon and Dole crossed the line in a pack, finishing in 17th, 18th, and 19th places for the Jeffs. The three were trailed by sophomore Erinn White (Watertown, NY), whose 22nd place, 20:19 finish led the way for junior Laurel Kilgour (Clifton Park, NY) and senior co-captain Cecily Brewer (W. Lafayette, IN). Kilgour and Brewer nabbed the 27th and 28th-place finishes, posting matching 20:38 times.

First-year Sarah Degraf (Langley, WA) took 30th place in 20:41, while sophomores Alyson Venti (Newton, MA) and Anne McNamara (Chappaqua, NY) took a 21:11 40th place and a 21:55 45th place. Rounding out the Jeff day, first-year Marcia Griffith (Natick, MA) locked up 50th place with a 22:15 outing, which paced senior Noelle Noyes' (Oneida, NY) 52nd place, 22:30 day and first-year Alison Rodriguez's (Albany, NY) 53rd place, 22:34 showing. Senior Julie Lipez (S. Portland, ME) took 59th place with a 24:01 showing.

This weekend, the Jeffs will travel to Bowdoin College for the NESCAC Championships, before heading to Williams on November 3rd for the ECAC Championship meet.
