Goodband & Perry Named NSCAA/Adidas All-New England
December 7 - Amherst senior men's soccer co-captain Ryan Goodband and sophomore teammate Franklin Perry were awarded spots on the 2001 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Adidas All-New England Team this week. All told, representatives from 23 institutions were voted onto the team, with coaches from 49 New England schools taking part in the selection process. Full Story

Goodband, Perry, Canon, Valdesolo & Syfu Tabbed All-NESCAC
November 7 - Five Amherst men's soccer players were recognized for their outstanding seasons when the NESCAC announced its all-conference selections on Tuesday. Senior tri-captain Ryan Goodband earned first-team honors, while sophomores Franklin Perry and Tim Canon, and junior Carlo Valdesolo were all second-team selections. The Jeffs also nabbed NESCAC Rookie of the Year honors for the second straight season, with Perry, last season's recipient, trading the title to first-year teammate Andrew Syfu. Full Story

M-Soccer Eliminated in NESCAC Quarterfinals
October 28 - An Amherst College player scored an own-goal after Bowdoin College's David Bulow's shot hit the post just 34 seconds into the second overtime to lift Bowdoin to a 3-2 win over the Jeffs in the quarterfinals of the 2001 NESCAC Championship Tournament. The Jeffs finished their season 7-6-2 overall, despite playing the majority of the season with a slew of injuries. Full Story

Men's Soccer Blanks Trinity in Regular-Season Finale
October 27 - Senior forward Adrian Talbott scored his first goal of the season off a pair of assists from midfielders Carlo Valdesolo and Andrew Korytoski to lead the Amherst College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Trinity College in Saturday's NESCAC regular-season finale. Talbott's game-winning tally, which came with 9:47 left in the first half, was all Amherst would need as its defense held the Bantams to just seven shots on goal. Full Story

Men's Soccer Set for NESCAC Tournament
October 26 - The Amherst men's soccer team his guaranteed itself a spot in the seven-team NESCAC Championship Tournament, for which dates and times were announced on Thursday by the NESCAC. Williams College, which boasts an 8-0 record in conference play with one game remaining - earned the top seed and the honor of hosting the semifinals on Saturday, November 3, as well as the championship game on Sunday, November 4. First-round action will take place this Sunday, October 28, at Middlebury College. Full Story

Men's Soccer Falls at Springfield, 2-1, in OT
October 23 - Springfield College's Mike Russo scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner on a penalty kick in the 95th minute, to lead the host Pride to a 2-1 non-league overtime victory over visiting Amherst. The Jeffs had taken an early 1-0 lead 11:30 into the game on sophomore forward Frank Perry's team-leading fourth goal of the season, assisted by Jeff Cantwell and Mike Russo. Full Story

Men's Soccer Dominates Wesleyan, 3-0
October 20 - In front of a large homecoming crowd, Carlo Valdesolo (Andover, MA) fed Franklin Perry (Hartford, CT) on a goal, then scored himself three minutes later, as the Amherst College men's soccer team broke out with a 3-0 win over Little Three rival Wesleyan University on Saturday. Amherst improves to 6-4-2 overall and 4-2-2 in NESCAC play with one conference game remaining. Full Story
