Jeffs Edge Colby in Season-Opener, 2-1

September 9, 2001

WATERVILLE, ME - Junior Amherst College defender Roger Boulay (Norfolk, MA) took a feed from sophomore midfielder Andrew Korytoski (Northampton, MA) and notched the game-winning goal 31:45 into the second half, as the Jeffs' men's soccer team won its season and conference opener 2-1 at NESCAC rival Colby College on Sunday.

Korytoski pounced on a loose ball deep in Colby's defensive zone and chipped a perfect pass to Boulay, who shook an oncoming defender and beat White Mule goalkeeper Andy Danziger for the deciding tally. Sophomore forward Franklin Perry (Hartford, CT) scored the Jeffs' first goal of the game 6:15 into the first half, unassisted.

Colby managed to tie the game 27 minutes later on a goal by Jamie Lue over the head of senior goalkeeper Bill Orum (Greenwich, CT) to set the stage for Boulay's game-winning heroics. Orum finished with three saves on the afternoon, while Danziger turned away eight shots for Colby.

Amherst returns to action Wednesday at 4 p.m. against visiting non-league foe Wheaton College.
