AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Todd Nichols (Skaneateles, NY), a junior quad-captain of the Amherst College men's lacrosse team, was selected to the 1998 Snively League All-Star Team. The midfielder is one of eleven student-athletes representing six institutions in the ten-team league.
Nichols concluded his junior season with 25 points on 21 goals and four assists. Picked as a Premier Midfielder by Face-Off Magazine in the pre-season, the quad-captain proved to be one of the top face-off men in the region. Amherst concluded the 1998 campaign in its fourth-straight ECAC Tournament with a 9-7 record.
The junior earned NESCAC Player of the Week honors at the beginning of the season as he rallied Amherst from a 10-9 deficit to an 11-10 victory over the eventual ECAC Champions, Springfield College. Nichols tied the match at 10-10 against the Pride with 41 seconds left to play, and he notched the game-winner just 16 seconds later with barely 25 ticks on the clock. Despite a mid-season injury, Nichols rebounded with another late-game surge against Connecticut College as the midfielder capped off a three-goal run with his second goal of the day with 50 seconds to play and to force overtime.
Nichols is also a quad-captain of the 1998 Lord Jeff football team. He will return to the gridiron as an All-ECAC and two-time All-NESCAC defensive back with 10 career interceptions. Nichols also earned GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in Fall 1997.
