Field Hockey Improves To 5-1

With 4-0 Blanking

of Mount Holyoke

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- As the wind swirled and the temperature dropped, the Amherst College Women's Field Hockey Team turned up the heat. Coming off a 5-0 decimation of Conn College last Saturday, the Lord Jeffs followed up this afternoon with another blowout of Mt. Holyoke. The Jeffs scattered 19 shots on the Mt. Holyoke net while the Lady Lyons could only muster a single shot against the mighty Lord Jeff defense. Senior Captain Jen Corso spearheaded the defensive wall that didn't allow Mt. Holyoke any formidable scoring opportunities.

Offensively, the day belonged to Senior Sandy Accordino. The speedy Accordino scored two goals within the first five minutes of the contest. Gretchen Bowe added another tally at the 30:00 minute mark of the first to send the game into halftime at 3-0. The Jeffs coasted home for the victory from there. Senior Captain Marnie Huffman-Green notched her third goal of the year at the 15:45 mark of the second half. Goalie Catherine Deibel, making her first start of the season, got the shutout -- even though she was only forced to make a single save.

The Lord Jeffs are currently ranked 16th in the Division III national rankings and are playing their best field hockey so far this season. The Jeffs travel up to Maine to take on the Polar Bears of Bowdoin College Saturday morning.
