Lord Jeffs Even Record to 3-3

Behind Naomi Sullivan's 17 points and 12 rebounds, Amherst women's basketball gained their third win with a 59-50 victory over the United States Coast Guard Academy. The Jeffs opened the game with a 7-0 run under full court pressure and the sharp-shooting of Janinne Noel before Coast Guard broke down the Amherst defensive pressure to keep it close going into halftime. The Bears trailed by only a point going into the locker room.

While fouls plagued the Jeffs early in the second half, Amherst's shooting stayed on target as they mounted an 8-0 run with 11 to play. Though they had to go without Nora McCartney with four fouls and Katie Hersey, who had fouled out, Amherst played the perimeter as they worked the clock down to last second-buckets by Liza Feldman and Noel before the shot-clock expired.

Coast Guard's Meredith Engelke was 0-11 for the night, whereas she ordinarily averages 11.6 ppg as the Bears' third leading scorer. Heather Wolf and Diana Sharp both contributed 15 points for Coast Guard.
