Nardolillo, Nichols Named Academic All-District
Pair Now Eligible for National Recognition

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- David Nardolillo (Albany, NY) and Todd Nichols (Skaneateles, NY) have been selected to the 1997 GTE/CoSIDA District I Academic All-America Football Team. The pair is among 26 scholar-athletes from 16 institutions in New England and New York who are now eligible for national selection. Amherst is one of six schools represented more than once on the District I Team.

Nardolillo earned a starting spot his junior year when the Economics-American Studies double major moved from linebacker to offensive lineman. While compiling a 3.38 grade point average, Nardolillo has helped the Jeffs to a 14-2 record as a starter, as the offensive line bas allowed 756 rushes for a net 2,791 yards and 29 touchdowns in the last two years, including 15 scores and a 3.7 average per carry in 1997. The senior is currently pursuing an honors thesis in American Studies and is a member of the NESCAC All-Academic Team. Nardolillo has also served as a Resident Counselor for first-year students for the last two years, and he has been active as a sports editor and writer for the campus newspaper, The Amherst Student. Nardolillo was a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete before graduating from the Albany Academy in 1994.

Nichols has been a three-year starter for the Jeffs at free safety while compiling a 3.68 average as a Political Science major. He finished his junior campaign with 34 hits (21 solo), five interceptions and 258 all-purpose yards as he averaged 30.2 yards per kickoff return. The junior has 10 interceptions returned for 95 yards in the past two years, including a pair of three-interception games against Trinity (1996) and Middlebury (1997). The defensive back earned both NESCAC and ECAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition for both hat trick performances, and he was named to the All-NESCAC football team as a sophomore. Nichols is a three-time member of the Academic All-NESCAC team for football and lacrosse, for which he is a junior quad-captain in the Spring of 1998.

The national football Academic All-America team squad will be announced on December 9.
