Rich Willard Named to ECAC Honor Roll
Quarterback breaks career passing record with 264-yard performance

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Rich Willard (Johnstown, NY), a senior Co-Captain of the Amherst College football team, was named to the ECAC Honor Roll for his performance against Trinity (Conn.) College on November 1. This is the second time Willard has received such recognition, the first time also occuring against Trinity one year ago.

The quarterback pushed the Jeffs to 7-0 for the second straight season with his 14-for-32 passing for 264 yards and two touchdowns. As a three-year starter, Willard was fast approaching the all-time passing record, bolstered by his 1,673-yard showing as a junior. The signal-caller surpassed Amherst's former best of 3,796 yards set in the 1969 season by John Kehoe with his second toss of the day, a 15-yarder to wideout Colin Barnacle (Denver, CO) less than a minute into the game. Leading the Bantams 28-0 at halftime after a pair of Willard bombs in the endzone, Amherst went on to a 35-8 victory.

Willard already held the record for most career attempts, which now stands at 519. With one game left in his collegiate career, Willard has 273-for-519 completions (52.6%) for 4,009 yards with 24 touchdowns passing and another six rushing.
