Amherst Blanks Clark 3-0

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Amherst outshot Clark 35-7 and had a 20-5 edge on penalty corners as the Jeffs shut out the Cougars 3-0 on Hitchcock Field. The Jeffs better their record to 3-0 while Clark falls to 0-4 for the season.

Heather Kestner (Wilmington, DE) opened up Amherst scoring with 17:58 left in the first half off a feed from Sandy Accordino (Closter, NJ). Rookie Gretchen Bowe (Hampstead, NH) pushed the halftime score to 2-0 with an assist from junior captain Irene Permut (Wilmington, DE). Sophomore Tyra Gettleman (Orono, ME) rounded out the game with her fifth goal in three games just 2:05 into the second half.

Amherst has tallied 12 goals in three games this season. In last year's run to the NCAA Tournament, the Jeffs registered a dozen goals halfway through the season in game 8 of 15.

Clark goalie Tanya Schubert (East Brookfield, MA) made 10 saves for the day. The Cougars next host Worcester State on Thursday, while Amherst travels to Connecticut College on Saturday.
