Willard Named Player of the Week
Quarterback leads team to first 7-0 start in 12 years

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Rich Willard '98 (Johnstown, NY) threw for a career high 349 yards to spark the Amherst offense and garner NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. This touchdown passes were only three of seven tosses in excess of 20 yards, including three 50+ throws. In the first half alone, Willard registered 257 yards on ten completions and was named to the ECAC Honor Roll for yet another outstanding performance.

As a second-year starter, Willard leads the league with a 158.0 efficiency rating. He has engineered eleven touchdowns in addition to running three in himself. This year alone he has thrown 1,461 yards from 94 completions in 155 attempts for a 60.6% completion rate. Willard is just one aspect of the best offense in the NESCAC, scoring 187 points with 2,965 yards to their credit.

Lord Jeff football is currently 7-0 for the first time since their last undefeated season of 1984. Coming off a strong 24-7 victory over then 6-0 Trinity (CT), Amherst prepares for the season finale this Saturday against archrival Williams. The last time the two teams met, a 0-0 tie resulted in Williamstown a year before the overtime rule took effect for college football.
