AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Alex Bernstein has been named to the 1996 AFCA Division III Coaches' All-America Team as one of the best defensive linemen in the nation. The 6'4"-317 lb. senior anchored a down-line that led the NESCAC in yards allowed (1,653) and Division III with only 67 points allowed in eight games (8.4 ppg). He was the third-leading tackler on the 7-1 Lord Jeffs with 61 hits (14 solo).
A native of Edina, Minnesota, Bernstein has NFL-hopes for after his graduation this May. The growing list of post-season honors he has received should help his pro-prospects, as the defensive tackle has been scouted by several professional teams. On the way to being named All American, Bernstein has also been recognized as a USA Division III All-Star, All-NESCAC, the NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year, New England Football Writers All-New England, the Gridiron Club Division II/III Defensive Player of the Year and Don Hansen9s National Weekly Football Gazette's All-East Region 2nd Team Defense.
