Posting wins to conclude their regular seasons on Saturday, Amherst's women's soccer and field hockey teams earned berths in their respective NCAA tournaments. This is the third consecutive year that women's soccer has appeared in the post-season tournament, while this is the first in the history of Amherst field hcokey.
Women's soccer is the No. 2 seed in the Northeast region. Compiling a 10-1-3 record thus far, the Jeffs will face the winner of Wednesday's first-round game between Kean (16-2-1) and Richard Stockton (13-4-2). Last year, Richard Stockton upset Amherst in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament by a 4-2 margin in penalty kicks.
Also in the Northeast region are No. 1 seed and host school Williams (11-0-3), who will face the winner of the Bowdoin (11-1-2)-Bates (11-2-1) game. Second round matches will be played on Saturday, November 9, with the winners advancing to Sunday's Elite Eight competition.
Field hockey (12-2) will travel to the College of New Jersey for a 2:30pm matchup on Saturday with William Smith. The hosts will face Washington College of Maryland earlier that day at noon. The winners will play in the regional championship on Sunday, November 10 at 1:00pm.
Lady Jeff field hockey is making its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Last season, Amherst advanced to the semifinals of the ECAC tournament before falling to Bowdoin by a score of 2-1.
