Meet Recap:

Performers of the Meet - Jack Wesley and Jay Drain

Less than twenty-four hours after the guys finished their races at Conn College, we would be back at the track and this time just across town at UMass Amherst. Getting our day would be our 4x100 squad (K. Flemming, A.Khan, H.Figueroa, T.Matthew) opening up with a 43.99 to take 3rd overall. A majority of this crew would return later on for the 100, where Thomas Matthew would lead the way with his 11.28 8th place performance. Aziz Khan was right behind running 11.32 for 9th, Figueroa clocked in a fine 11.55 for 13th, and Sam Amaka rounded things out with a 12.27. Earlier in the 400m, Jay Drain would run a personal best of 53.5 and Jeff Ewing put up a time of 55.6. Representing the team in the field events, we would have Khalil Flemming put up marks of 5.75m in the long jump and 12.70m in the triple jump. In the shot put, Thomas Matthew got it out to 12.05m to take 7th, while Sam Amaka threw 11.82m for 8th place. Continuing to master the javelin, Stadtler Thompson got it out to 44.08m to finish in 8th place. Leading the way for the squad in 1500m would be Jeff Seelaus, who competed well in the unseeded section and ran 3:59.1 to finish 2nd overall in the field - the day's highest placing for the squad. Finishing not too far off Seelaus and turning in a strong performance would be Chris Butko running 4:03.5 to finish 9th overall. After Butko we would have Jacob Silverman at 4:12.2, Jack Malague at 4:16.9, Kevin Dooley at 4:18.3, and Aaron Zambrano running 4:25.1. Prior to our crew attacking the 1500, Jesse Fajnzylber got his first taste of the steeplechase and ran 10:32.4 to finish in 5th place. In the 800 our crew would be lead by senior captain, Brent Harrison a strong 1:55.5 to take 11th place. Right behind Brent was Steven Lucey at 1:56.1 and Kristian Sogaard running 1:56.7 while Ermias Kebede would also clock in a strong 800m performance of 1:59.0, while Jeff Seelaus would quickly bounce back from his 1500m and run 2:00.4. In the later stages of the day, Harrison Haigood would be the team’s top finisher in the 200m running 23.41. David Ingraham was a tick behind him running 23.49, while Eli Langston ran 24.60 and Jay Drain 25.33. The highlight from the 5,000 would be sophomore, Jack Wesley running a very well executed race and clocking in a big new PR of 15:25.41 to finish 4th.  Tucker Meijer was next across the line in 15:46.5, while Justin Barry ran 15:54.1 and Peter Horton finished in 16:08.4. Closing out our day would be a strong 3:23.4 4x400 performance by David Ingraham (51.9), Chris Butko (50.1), Kristian Sogaard (51.1), and Brent Harrison (50.1).

The outdoor season has certainly flown by, as next weekend’s Tufts Sunshine Classic will be the final meet before the championship season. A majority of the guys will be off to rest up for the NESCAC Championship, though quite a few will look to sharpen up, hit qualifying marks to extend thier seasons or end their year on a high note!
