Meet Recap:

Runners of the Meet - Lucas Lebovitz

The teams headed to Williamstown for the Purple Valley Classic, run on the scenic and challenging Mt. Greylock HS Course. With the race providing the option for a 5k or an 8k, all of the freshmen went in the 5k along with our 800 runners Durk and Brent while the others ran the 8k. Having raced hard the last 2 weekends, a different strategy was employed in both races that by and large - a couple of exceptions - kept pace controlled to a tempo effort before picking up. In the 5k, the guys kept in check for the first 2 miles before trying to stretch their legs a bit in the final mile while trying to challenge themselves to catch as many guys as they could. Raymond Meijer picked off around 20 or so guys - despite the small field - to come across as the 1st Jeff in 13th, with classmates Ben Fiedler & Kevin Connors coming through in 16th and 19th. 800 training partners Alex Durkee and Brent Harrison each ran under 18 minutes to finish in the top 25 and close out the scoring while Sam Wohlforth finished 31, and Steven Lucey got to get his uniform dirty for the first time this season as he returns from a summer injury and prepares for a full race effort in 2 weeks.

With an eye on the bigger picture, the majority of the guys used the race as a workout with a little feel of competition as they stayed together through the first 2 1/2 miles running near the back of the field in 5:45-50 pace before starting a minute on / off interval session through to the 4m mile mark, and at that point, ran as hard as they could in the last mile trying to catch as many guys as possible in the final mile. Despite the controlled early going, and the stop and go of the intervals, they came through quickly in the final mile of the course running well as Dan Crowley and KC Fussell swapped leads as they finished in 39th and 41 while Gus Greenstein put together a nice finish to close just above 5 minutes and 47th overall. Charlie Reighard is showing signs that is rounding back into shape as he led his pack group of Alva Morales and Jeff Seelaus, finishing in 28:03 for 56th while Alva and Jeff came through shortly after. Romey Skalr and Lucas Lebovitz worked great together and came through the finish separated by 2 places and the same amount of time.
