Meet Recap: Runners of the Meet - Alex Durkee & Dan Crowley

Warming up through the woods to get to the race is a nice way to get the season started for an "away" meet, as the boys got the 2013 campaign kicked off at the UMass Amherst Invite. Running against Division I team UConn, UMaine, Umass, Boston College and Vermont the team finished 6th with 100 points but showed they belonged with the bigger schools as we put 2 guys in the Top 10 over the 6200m short course. KC Fussell got out strong, running in the top group of 5 runners for the large majority of the race while Dan Crowley moved up after the first mile to work with Fuss in the last mile, before pulling away in the last 400 or so and finishing 4th overall, covering the course in 19:29 with Fuss coming in 9th a few seconds behind. A great race by the pair, and a big step for Dan from where we were last year and a great return of racing confidence from Fuss. 30 seconds behind, Raymond Meijer would make his debut finishing 3rd for the team a couple of ticks ahead of Alva Morales as they ran 20:05 and 10, and then Jeff Seelaus would wrap up the scoring with his 33rd place finish a few seconds after that, with Gus Greenstein on his heels. A pair of first years would come in next for the team as Kevin Connors and Jesse Fajnzylber worked great throughout the race and finished within a few seconds of each other finishing just above 21 minutes. Alex Durkee had his best XC race thus far, looking strong and bringing along first runner Sam Wohlfurth as they were just above 22 minutes. The squad was without several runners who we opted to sit out to let them get a little farther ahead with their training as opposed to racing at less then full strength, and will look ahead to the Souther Maine invite next weekend to see a few more guys make their season opener.
