Meet Recap
Performers of the Meet - Melissa Sullivan and Steve Stewart
The outdoor season officially got underway with an unusually gorgeous day at the Bantam Invite held at Trinity. The weather was brisk in the early portion which was ideal for the 10k runners and then proceeded to warm up and stay sunny, and despite the early going, the team posted some great results. The 10k runners, using the race as a harder workout effort were rewarded with some great times. Daniel Murner started off the outdoor season right where he left off the indoor season - as the first one to cross the line, as he easily outdistanced the field with a solid time and posted the day's lone victory for the team. Hallie Schwab, Liz Dalton and Christina not only finished 2-3-4 but all ran under the PR's, which bodes well for later in the season when they return to the race to really get after a fast mark. Melissa Sullivan garnered a pair if third place finishes - first in the 1500 where she had a great 2nd half of the race to move into 3rd and run to a great time as she stepped up in distance. Ellen Richmond, in the last section also had a great race as she ran well under her PR time for the Mile when converting and has show some great improvement in a very short time. In the 800, Sullivan again was the top Amherst finisher but this time it was a wave of purple as 5 of the Top 10 runners were Amherst as Carly Levenson grabbed 4th, with Molly Priedeman, Mary Doris Reggie and Hoiwan Cheung all coming in within a second of each other. Kate Silverman and Kat Loomis finished 4th and 5th in the 400 hurdles before they each led off their respective 4x400 relay teams. Jenny Mancino and Jennifer Rybak each duplicated the 4-5 finish, but they did it in the high jump. Mattie Baker, as she has grown accustomed to, finished as the top 200 runner for the team and cracked the Top 10. Jordan Roehl grabbed a Top 10 finish in the shot put and both her and Chibuzo Uwakaneme got their first experience with the hammer as they finished 11th and 16th. Peter Foote had a 5th place finish in the 5k, while Steve Stewart posted a PR in the 1500 before doubling back to run a strong 800 and then anchoring the 4x400 relay. In the 400, Larry Thompson had a great performance to just miss breaking 52 seconds in his first race and has been making the transition to the 400 very effectively. Andre Gary was also in the 52 second range while Keith Pendergrass and Andrew Reed each broke into the Top 20. The 4x400 relay of Larry, Ryan Drost, Anthony Fuller and Stew grabbed a 4th place finish while the women ran 2 teams that were equally matched rather then loaded up and placed 5th and 6th.
