Meet Recap -
Performers of the Meet - Andrew Reed and Christine Wong
With a cold biting wind that was all over the place, periodic rain and temperatures that made taking off the sweats a questionable thing, the team fared well in a 5 team meet at Springfield. While a tough day to post some real fast marks, the intent was to compete well and give a solid effort that will help us down the road once it becomes a little better for ideal conditions to compete. Will Yochum grabbed the days lone victory for the men with his win in the 5000, running smooth through the entire race before pulling away in the last 600, while Melissa Pritchard grabbed the lone win for the women as she tackled the steeplechase - quite literally as she took a fall in the last lap that left her bruised and cut up, but not enough to deter her from taking the win handily. Jordan Roehl threw the hammer to a new school record mark by nearly a foot, as she continue to gain momentum in that event while Chibuzo Uwakaneme also had a great throw to break the 100 foot barrier and grab points. Andrew Reed - a new convert to track, continued to show big improvement as he nearly broke 52 seconds in the 400, finishing just behind Larry Thompson who ran another PR to just miss cracking the barrier and then the pair combined with Anthony Fuller and Ryan Drost to finish 2nd in the 4x400 relay. Steve Stewart grabbed a runner-up spot in the 800 as he just missed breaking 1:58, Daniel Murner dropped down in distance to finish 2nd in the 1500, while Chris Eaton also grabbed a runner-up spot in the Hammer, getting the ball and chain out over 130 feet. Christina Wong, despite the windy and cold conditions, lowered her 5k PR to an 18:42 while placing 4th with Sophie Galleher just behind her, while Melissa Sullivan battled the wind and a pair of Middlebury runners to finish 3rd in the 800, while Molly Priedeman and Eliza Schalch were just behind in 6th and 7th. Carly Levenson grabbed a 5th place in the 400 to lead the Amherst contingent in that event, while Mattie Baker grabbed a pair of 5th place finishes in the 100 and 200. Jennifer Rybak grabbed a 5th in the high jump as she just missed clearing 5 feet, while in the long jump, Sean Legister jumped over 19 feet in his first crack at the event this spring. Ryan Drost grabbed a 4th place finish, nearly being blown off the track in the 400 Hurdles while Peter Foote warmed up for his steeple debut with a 6th place finish. Kevin Hanley and Travis Cohoon chipped the ice off the water pit and got their feet wet with the steeplechase, finishing 7th and 8th. Anthony Fuller led the sprint group with a 6th and 7th place finish in the 100 and 200 respectively, while the day also saw the return of the infamous Jack Kiley as he returned to competition in the 400 grabbing a 10th place in his first race in over a year.
