Meet Recap
Performers of the Meet - Peter Foote and Susie Wasserman
The teams headed down to Conn College for the NESCAC Championships, and the combination of great weather and strong competition brought out some great performances by the team. The men had their best finish in 9 years as they finished 5th, while the women grabbed 8th place. The men's lone victory, came in the days last event as the Distance Medley Relay team of Will Yochum, Kit Callahan, Will Bell and Jimmy Swanson had an exciting rae with bates College before Jimmy was able to move in front for good in the last lap to secure the victory in a time of 10:10.87 and secure the 5th place team finish. Peter Foote broke the 9:30 barrier in the steeplechase for the first time as he finished 2nd, running 9:26 to significantly lower his best time and grab his highest championship finish. In the same race, John Mcgrail had a great run and a big last 200 to grab 5th place and Travis Cohoon lowered his best time to qualify for the DIII NE meet. Daniel Murner and Carlyle Eubank traded some early laps in the 5k, and while the heat was great for some events, it took its toll on the runners in this race but the duo was able to grab a 2nd and 4th place finish. Sean Legister proved to be team champion in the 100, as he edged Anthony Fuller by .002 seconds as the pair finished 5th and 6th in the 100, and then combined with Andrew Reed and Tommy Moore to grab a 3rd place finish in the 4x100. Andrew and Tommy placed 8th and 9th in the 400, while Larry thompson after getting so close each week, finally was able to break under the 52 second barrier. The 4x400 relay of Reed, Moore, Fuller and Steve Stewart had an exciting race as the finished 3rd in their best time of the season and will look to run under 3:20 in the coming weeks as A-train, running the second leg, got under 50 seconds for his split for the first time. Jimmy Swanson grabbed a 4th place finish in the 800 out of the "slower heat", as he raced to a 1:54.50 while Steve Stewart, who led for the first 600 raced to a new PR, just missing the 1:56 barrier (1:56.07). In the first section of the 800, Kit Callahan used a strong finish to win the section in an outdoor PR of 1:58.50 while Ben Scheetz ran his first race since indoors, and ran to a 1:59. Chris Eaton, after taking down a few trees in the warm-ups, threw the hammer to a new PR of 145-5 and grabbed 7th place to pick up 2 points for the team. the Will duo (Yochum and Bell) finished 4th and 7th in the 1500, while Steve Corsello continues to rally into shape from an ankle injury and qualified for this weekend's meet with his 4:04 clocking.
The women were led by Susie Wasserman's 3rd place finish in the 400 hurdles, as she raced to a time of 65.48 in the slower section - missing her best time from last year by .01 seconds. She finished the day by joining with kate Silverman, Mary Doris Reggie and Carly Levenson to finish 5th in the 4x400 relay. The 10k got the day started, and the duo of Hallie Schwab and Liz Dalton not only placed 5th and 6th, but also significantly improved their best times as each broke 38:30, while Christina Wong finished in 10th. Melissa Sullivan had a pair of great races as she won her section of the 800 with a new PR of 2:18.44 and finished 9th, and then anchored the 4x800 relay to a 3rd place finish with a 2:17.3 carry as Hoiwan Cheung, Molly Priedeman and Liza Schalch were able to finish the day with a crucial 6 points to move the team into 8th place overall. Zandra Walton and Liza finished back to back in the 1500, going 1-2 in the 1st section and placing 12 and 13th overall with Liza improving upon her best time by over 2 seconds. Jenny Mancino grabbed 9th in the high jump, having cleared the same height as 4 other jumpers but missing scoring based on attempts, while Jennifer Rybak finished in 10th as she bounced between the high and triple jumps. Jenny joined, earlier in the day, with Mattie baker, Kate and Kat Loomis to finish 7th in the 4x100 relay. Jordan Roehl finished 8th in the shot put, and also made the finals in the hammer while Chibuzo Uwakeneme had a couple of huge throws in he hammer as she added nearly 16 feet to her best mark on 2 of her attempts finishing at 116-00 and placing 13th. Melissa Pritchard grabbed the win in the slower section of the steeplechase and considerably lowered her best time to a 12:17 and finished 10th overall, and in the same finishing spot, Carly ran 61.13 in the 400 to grab a 10th place.
