Meet Recap

Performers of the Meet - Peter Foote and Jordan Roehl

The women finished 2nd while the men grabbed 4th at the Tufts Invitational, and perhaps even more importantly - they returned to normal training and daily schedules with the start of classes. The strength built during the last 3 weeks of doubles was quite evident this weekend, and as they continue to sharpen up, the results will continue to be improved upon. The women captured the days final 3 events in convincing fashion. Elise Tropiano helped set the pace for teammates Sophie Galleher and hallie Schwab as they would sweep the 5k, with indoor PR's set for both Hallie and Sophie. The 4x400 and Distance Medley Relays were run away victories for the team as the quartet of Susie Wasserman, Molly priedeman, Mary Doris Reggie and Carly Levenson grabbed an easy victory, as they had last weekend and then the Distance Medley finished off the day with a win as Liza Schalch, Kate Silverman, Melissa Sullivan and Zandra Walton had a convincing win to end the day for the team. Zandra earlier in the day grabbed her 3rd individual victory in as many races this season, as she led Amherst to a very impressive 1 - 5 sweep in the 800 with the ladies in the 4x400 all grabbing those spots. Jordan Roehl nearly broke 40 feet in the weight throw, and looks to be figuring out the intricacies of the new event and has her sights set on the school record which could fall any time, and in the shot put she grabbed 2nd in a throw in excess of 38 feet. Jenny Mancino had a strong race in the 400 to grab 4th place, while Mattie Baker finished in the same spot in the 200 - again leading the sprint crew. Kate Silverman raced to a 3rd place in the 55 hurdles as well as running the anchor leg of the 3rd place 4x200 relay. The 100 saw Amherst placed 4 runners in the scoring 8 as Hoiwan Cheung, Zoe pagonis, Liza and mariana Palacios finished 3, 4, 6th and 8th - all with marks under the DIII standard. Liz Dalton, Cate Knuff and Shannon McKenna placed 4th, 6th and 7th in the 3000, and then Liz, along with Shannon placed in the scoring in the mile which was run shortly after.

The men were led again by a Ben Scheetz victory, as the first year has now won all three races that he has run this season - this weeks victory being another convincing win the 800, as he lowered his indoor PR significantly. Steve Stewart and Tommy Moore had a great battle in the 600 as they finished 1-2 in that event. Another 1-2 finish for Amherst came in the 1000 - as Jimmy Swanson and Steve Corsello raced together the whole race and running to a 2:33 and 2:34 and Kit Callahan coming back from a leg injury to post a scoring mark as well, while Peter Foote and Will Yochum also went 1-2 in the 5k as they ran a very smart race and lowered their PR's significantly as they ran to a time of 15:15 and 15:17. AJ Scola led his football converts in the Long Jump as he had a mark just over 20 feet to grab 4th while Andre Gary finished 8th, and then ran the fastest split in the 4x400 Relay. Anthony Fuller placed 6th in the 200, while Daniel Murner, Carlyle Eubank and Will Bell all finished in the scoring in the 3k - and in the 2nd section, Kevin Hanley ran to a new PR. Larry Thompson, despite breaking his hand just over a week ago, showed his toughness by not only racing in the 400 but setting a new PR and establishing himself as the toughest man in the universe in the process.
