Weekend Recap

Performer of the Meet - Carly Levenson'08 and Jimmy Swanson'10

On Friday, Elise Tropiano and Heather Wilson went to Boston University to compete at the Terrier Classic against a mix of Open, DI,II and III competitors. Both were racing in the Championship section of the 5k and despite the heavy training of intersession, were looking to work together towards the goal for a fast time. Changing laps every 3-4 laps, they went through the mile in 5:32 and then hit the 2 mile in 11:08, and at that point Elise picked up the pace in an effort to go after the 5th place runner from Stonybrook - and in the last lap, would get by here to finish 5th in a time of 17:17.04 (NCAA Provisional Mark) while Heather would finish in 9th with a time of 17:33.36.

On Saturday, the rest of the team traveled to Wesleyan to compete at their non scoring Invitational. Jimmy Swanson led the men's team with his victory in the 100 - after an opening lap of 34 seconds, he jumped into the lead and then ran away with the win, while Tommy Anderson finished in 7th. Peter Foote grabbed a runner-up spot in the 3000, racing evenly for the entire race and then throwing in a big sprint at the end to go by another runner, while Ben Mears would finish 5th in the same section. Basile Beaty finished 3rd in the 800, and then also joined with Jimmy, Taylor Perkins and Peter Harrison in the DMR that finished 3rd. Mike Harbus finished 4th in perhaps the best race of the day - the men's mile - and Pete Harrison and John McGrail finished 8th and 9th in the same race, while in the last section, Jack Seaver won his section of the mile. Taylor Perkins led the sprint crew as they stepped up in distance to compete in the 500, as he grabbed 7th, with Ryan Drost coming in next at 9th, Keith Pendergrass at 12th and Steve Shashy coming in at 16th.

The women were led by a victory by Liz Dalton in the 3k - along with a runner-up spot by Cate Knuff, to go along with a win in the last event of the day, the DMR - where he team of Hallie Schwab, Susie Wasserman, Carly Levenson and Zandra Walton lapped most of the field en route to an easy win. Carly grabbed 2nd in the 500 before her 800 leg of the DMR, while Kate Silverman won her section of the 500 to place 4th overall while Mariana Palacios finished 9th. Zandra led a 2-3-5 Amherst finish in the 800, as Mary Doris Reggie and Hoiwan Cheung all raced in the same section. Other 4th place finishers were Hallie in the Mile, and then Christina Wong with a nice PR in the 5k. Jennifer Rybak was busy, as she was completing her pentathlon qualifying and posted solid marks in the long jump - 8th place (just behind Susie's 6th place jump), 800, SP and was under 10 seconds in the 55 Hurdles all before running a leg of the 3rd place 4x400 relay along with kate, Hoiwan and Mary Doris. Zoe Pagonis got under 10 seconds in the hurdles in her first crack at the event of the year. Mattie Baker had the fastest time of the team in the short sprints as she finished just ahead of Emily Dick in both the 55 and the 200, and they would also come back later to run in the 4x400. Jenny Mancino finished 7th in the High Jump.
