Meet Recap

Performers of the Meet - Peter Foote '09 and Mary Doris Reggie '10

Senior captain Basile Beaty led the team with a strong run in the 600, picking up a win in 1:23.90. Peter Harrison also ran tough in the 1000, where he finished third in 2:33.93 and was followed by Ben Read and Jack Seaver. Mike Harbus led a strong Amherst trio in the 3000, grabbing fourth place in a very tight race (8:46.32). He was followed closely by Daniel Murner (6th, 8:52.98) and Florian Reichert (7th, 8:53.52), who was running his first track race of the season. Jimmy Swanson was the only Amherst runner to make it into the top heat of the mile, but he represented the team well by finishing fifth in 4:24.29. Peter Foote and Tom Anderson took to the track shortly after and went 1-2 (running 4:30.91 and 4:31.46, respectively) in their heat of the mile. In his first track race of the season, Eric Holaday took fourth (15:53.64) in the 5000, with Ben Mears (fifth, 15:58.41) right behind and Will Fairhurst (14th, 16:32.04) continuing his comeback.

In the sprints, Anthony Fuller returned to the track after a week off and ran 6.80 in the dash to make the final, where he finished seventh before making his 200m debut later in the meet. Taylor Perkins led the Jeffs in the 400, finishing 13th in 53.83, with Steve Shashy coming in 18th and Keith Pendergrass finishing 21st. The relays were highlighted by Amherst's "A" DMR of Peter Harrison, Ryan Drost, Tom Anderson, and Jimmy Swanson taking fourth in 10:41.63.

On the women's side, Zandra Walton recorded her third runner-up finish in three weeks, finishing second in a last-lap battle in the 3000 with a time of 10:35.86. Hallie Schwab finished third in another PR of 10:39.37. Despite not getting into the top heat of the 600, Carly Levenson (third, 1:39.46) and Mary Doris Reggie (fourth, 1:39.78) showed that they belonged there by going 1-2 in their heat. Susie Wasserman continued her strong season by finishing fourth (2:25.06) in the 800, followed by Zoe Pagonis (11th, 2:31.36) and Lauren Benson, who ran her best race of the season (25th, 2:41.20). Wasserman joined up with Reggie, Levenson, and Kate Silverman in the 4x400 later in the meet, where the quartet finished second in a season-best 4:05.77.

Despite running a shorter race than usual, Liz Dalton performed well in the mile, running 5:31.67 for 11th place. She was followed by Cate Knuff (14th, 5:36.56) and Christina Wong (17th, 5:41.50). Dalton came back at the end of the meet to run the 1600 leg of the DMR, where she ran a nearly-identical 5:30.4. In the sprints, Jennifer Rybak led the team with a 12th-place finish (28.09) in the 200, followed by Kate Silverman in 16th, and Mattie Baker in 23rd. Silverman led the 55 meter hurdlers with a 15th-place, 9.94 finish. Baker, Rybak, Dick, and Silverman teamed up in the 4x200 and ran 1:52.82 for seventh place.
