Meet Recap

Athletes of the Meet - Carlyle Eubank'10 and Maria Millard'07

A small group - those who had met the ECAC standards - headed to the Last Chance meet at MIT for one final chance to run fast and possibly post NCAA Qualifying marks. The stress and fatigue of final exam week combined with a cold, steady downpour did not make for optimal conditions but it proved to be a good meet nonetheless. Maria Millard dropped nearly 2 seconds from her 400 Hurdle record to smash her PR and qualify automatically for NCAA, dipping under the 62 second barrier. Sophie Galleher won the steeple, running all alone for the 2nd week in a row, and lowered her best mark by the smallest of margins - .01. Caitlin Murphy won the 1500 handily, running all along after the 400 mark and then came back shortly after to run one more rainy race, the 800. The 4 x 400 relay nearly broke 4:00 as the team of Carly Levenson, Molly Priedeman, Hannah Campbell and Maria ran to a convincing win and their best time of the year. Carly placed 5th in the 400, winning her section and finishing very close to her best time despite the weather.

Carlyle Eubank finished 3rd in the 1500, running 4:01, and then with only a couple of weeks off to follow, came back in the 5k and despite the crappy weather and having run a hard 1500 shortly before, was able to lower his best time by nearly 10 seconds and break the freshman record as he ran 15:03 and finish 2nd. In the 5k as well, Nate Freese and Mike Harbus finished 5th and 6th. Jack Kiley grabbed 4th in a loaded 800 field and then led off the 4 x 400 relay of Eric Glustrom, Steve Stewart and Rich Wilson as they finished 3rd. Rich and Robert Boley grabbed 7th and 8th in the steeplechase to close out their Amherst career, while fellow senior John Babbott wrapped up his Amherst running with an 8th place finish in the 1500.
