NCAA SAAC Representative needed

We have been informed by our current NCAA SAAC liaison that the NESCAC is up in the rotation for a representative for our conference and our partner conference, which is the Little East. I have provided some details about the responsibilities of the position, and I am asking you to inform me of anyone that is interested in serving in this role. The individual needs to be involved with both an institution’s SAAC and the NESCAC SAAC, and previous SAAC experience is preferred. The individual should be motivated to make a difference in Division III athletics. The preference is for an individual that will have Junior standing entering the fall of 2008. The term of the appointment is for three years and will last a full year following the exhaustion of the student-athlete’s eligibility (i.e. one year following graduation). The term starts in July of 2008.

The individual will attend both NESCAC and Little East Conference SAAC meetings and bring feedback from those groups to the NCAA SAAC. The NESCAC SAAC currently holds two meetings per year, once during the fall and again in the spring on a Sunday afternoon. The individual will also attend national committee meetings, which occur three times a year - November, January at the annual NCAA convention, and in July. The November and July meetings are usually held from Friday-Sunday, while the January meeting lasts up to one week (convention is usually held over the second weekend in January). The individual will also have the ability to sit on a variety of NCAA committees.

In describing the experience, our current liaison stated that being on the national committee is an eye-opening experience, and that they were unaware beforehand of how much of an impact they could have as a student-athlete. Serving on the committee allowed our current liaison to meet new individuals and make long-lasting friendships, and was also a fun experience.

The conference has to submit three names, one male, one female, and one ethnic minority, to the NCAA. The NCAA will select an individual from the nominations to represent the NESCAC and the Little East. The selection by the NCAA will be based partially on the needs to balance the committee in areas such as gender, ethnic diversity and sport representation. Nominations shall be submitted electronically (online) to the NCAA in March.

Please let me know if you have any questions or need more information. I would appreciate it if you could let me know by Friday, Feb. 29, if you have an individual that is interested in serving on this committee.

Thanks,

Dan
