AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College swimming and diving teams each delivered impressive wins against visiting MIT today. The women finished with a 136-98 win while the men came through with a 129-107 win in the Amherst seniors’ final home meet.

After an emotional introduction in which Coach Nick Nichols read the senior bios prepared by the team’s junior swimmers, the women dominated their events. Led by senior Piper Pettersen (Kirkland, WA) with wins in the 200 IM and the 200 breaststroke, the women took first place in all eleven of the swimming events. Sophomore Mary Marvel (Williamsburg, MA) also put together an impressive performance, winning both the 50 and 100-yard freestyles for the Jeffs.

The Engineers’ lone wins on the women’s side were in the one and three meter diving events, where junior Doria Holbrook came out on top.

The men’s team also performed admirably in front of the home crowd, boasting a quartet of double event winners. Senior captain Ethan Treat (Newton, MA) took the 200 IM and 200 fly, junior Andrew Maslan (Mission Hills, KS) the 200 and 500 freestyles, and sophomore Christian Witzke (Jacksonville, FL) the 1000 and 100 freestyles to lead the charge in the swimming events, while junior Connor Boyd dominated both the one and three meter diving competitions. Boyd achieved another national qualifying cut and set a new pool record with his 319.58 score in the three meter. In total, the men won eight of the thirteen events.

The women improved to 7-0 with the win while the men climbed to 5-2. Both teams travel to Springfield College Saturday Feb. 3rd at 1 p.m. for their final dual meets of the year.
