The Jeffs played solid hockey in the opening period, shutting the Valiants down after allowing an early goal to freshman forward Melissa Hawkins (Binghamton, NY), and seemed poised to make a game of it after Williams tied the game early in the second period. However, just 1:10 later, sophomore Genevieve Allegrezza (Anchorage, Alaska) opened the flood gates with the first of six consecutive Valiant goals to seal the blowout for Manhattanville.
Hawkins scored twice on the evening, while classmate Emily Duer (Euclid, OH) added two goals and an assist. Sophomore Lindsey Paulsrud (Wilmette, IL) and freshman Annie Annunziato (Commack, NY) also cracked the scoring column for the Valiants, who are tied for fourth place in the ECAC Division III standings with an 8-4-1 overall record.
Sophomore goaltender Heidi Alexander (Edina, MN) had another outstanding game for Amherst with 54 saves, including 23 in the first period. Freshman Renee Kirnan (Dewitt, NY) tallied 15 saves for Manhattanville.
The Jeffs host Trinity College Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Orr Rink.
