NEW LONDON, CT - The Amherst College women's ice hockey team led early but fell victim to a four-goal barrage by sophomore forward Lindsey Sundberg (Roswell, GA) in a 6-4 loss at Connecticut College (5-6) on Tuesday night.

After a Sundberg score just 1:49 into the game, Amherst took a 2-1 lead when senior Co-captain Gretchen Bowe (Hampstead, NH) connected for her fourth goal of the season, assisted by ECAC Rookie of the Week Alison White (Brookline, MA), and fed sophomore scoring-machine Danielle Williams (Needham, MA) for a left handed wrister later in the first period.
The Jeffs' advantage was short lived, however, as the host Camels rebounded with a trio of consecutive goals by rookie forward Janet Hanson (Ipswich, MA), Sundberg and sophomore defender Caley Boyd (New Canaan, CT) to take the lead for good.
Down but not out, Williams connected again on an unassisted breakaway at the tail end of the second period to cut the deficit to 4-3 - her team-leading 13th goal of the season - before Sundberg put the game out of reach with two more goals in a seven minute span at the start of the third period.
First-year forward Elissa Landes (Potomac, MD) added Amherst's fourth goal of the evening with just over 11 minutes remaining in regulation, but it was too little too late as the Jeffs fell to 3-8 with the loss.
The Jeffs continue their three game road-swing at Sacred Heart University Friday night at 7 p.m.
