Amherst Women's Basketball 2000-01 Milestones
Team Accomplishments:
1) Won regular-season NESCAC title and second-consecutive outright Little Three Championship while posting a school-record 23 wins.

2) Also set school records for season winning percentage (.821), total points scored (1,754), games played (28) and tied the single-season mark for fewest losses (5).
3) Posted the second-longest winning streak in school history (10 games).
4) Took second place in the Holiday Inn/Naismith Classic Tournament at Springfield College.
5) Finished 11th in the nation in scoring defense and field-goal percentage defense.
6) Only team in the NESCAC with three All-Conference selections.
7) Placed a player in double-figures for rebounds in every game for the first time in school history
8) Sarah Walker '03, Caitlin Farrell '04 and Sarah Bergman '04 finished first, second and third in in the NESCAC in blocked shots (2.5, 1.7 and 1.6/gm)

Individual Accomplishments:
1) Head Coach Billy McBride
*Named NESCAC and District 1 Russell Athletic/WBCA Coach of the Year.

*Won 100th career game, 77-46, over Babson on Jan. 11


2) First-Year Guard Shannon Russell (Shrewsbury, MA)
*Second-Team All-NESCAC selection and Third-Team NEWBA All-Star

*Set a single-game school record with seven three-pointers against the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on Dec. 11

*Also shattered a single-season school record and led the NESCAC with 70 three-pointers

*Led the NESCAC in three-point field goal percentage at 36% (70-for-196)

*Named to the Holiday Inn/Naismith Classic All-Tournament Team (hosted by Springfield College)

*Twice tabbed NEWBA Rookie of the Week (Feb. 29 & Jan. 9). Also named NESCAC Player of the Week on Feb. 6


3) Sophomore Forward Sarah Walker (West Hartford, CT)
*Second-Team All-NESCAC selection

*Led the NESCAC and finished 11th in the nation in blocked shots (2.6/gm)

*Also led the NESCAC and finished 19th in the nation in rebounding (11.7/gm)

*Shattered single-season school records for rebounds (328), rebounding average (11.7/gm), blocks (74) and consecutive games with 10 or more rebounds (10)

*Set a single-game school record with five blocked shots on three separate occasions

*Now first on the Amherst all-time blocked shots list (116 through two seasons) and sixth in rebounding (572 through two seasons)


4) Sophomore Guard Sara Bozorg (Amherst, MA)
*Second-Team All-NESCAC selection

*Led the NESCAC and finished fourth in the country with a school-record 174 assists (6.3/gm)

*Also led the NESCAC and finished 20th in the nation with a school-record 110 steals (3.9/gm.)

*Set single-game school records for assists (10 vs. Clark University, 12/9/00) and steals (8 vs. Clark, 12/9/00)

*Now fifth among Amherst all-time assist leaders with 273 (through two seasons)


5) First-Year Forward Sarah Bergman (Shaftsbury, VT)
*Finished third in the NESCAC in blocked shots (1.6/gm)

*Tabbed NESAC and NEWBA Player of the Week on 2/6/01

*Named to the Holiday Inn/Naismith Classic All-Tournament Team (hosted by Springfield College)

*Now fifth on Amherst's all-time blocked-shots list (46 through one season)


6) First-Year Center Caitlin Farrell (Lafayette, CA)
*Finished second in the NESCAC in blocked shots (1.7/gm) and matched a school record with five blocks at Springfield College on 1/3/01

*Now fifth on Amherst's all-time blocked-shots list with 48 (through one season)
