The Jeffs opened the game on a 6-0 run and never trailed, taking a 12-point advantage into the locker room at halftime. RPI managed to chip away in the second half and had a chance to tie the game in the waning seconds, but Amherst first-year guard Shannon Russell (Shrewsbury, MA) swatted away a three-point attempt by Holly Neiweem (East Hampton, CT) at the buzzer to seal the victory.
Russell finished with 14 points despite shooting just 1-for-7 from the three-point arc, while sophomore forward Sarah Walker (West Hartford, CT) added 12 points, five boards and a pair of blocks. Meanwhile, first-year center Caitlin Farrell (Lafayette, CA) paced the Jeffs on the glass with a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with six points and two blocks.
With the win, the Jeffs advanced to the tournament final on Wednesday where they'll take on host Springfield College at 5:30 p.m. Springfield advanced to the championship game with a 79-48 win over Manhattanville College earlier in the day.
