Jeffs Take Season-Opener 63-49 Over Mount Holyoke|

AMHERST, MA - Sophomore guard Sara Bozorg (Amherst, MA) poured in a career-high 17 points while a trio of Jeffs pulled down 12 or more rebounds as the Amherst College women's basketball team rolled over Mount Holyoke College 63-49 in its season-opener on Tuesday.
Sophomore forward Jessica Justice (Doylestown, PA) paced the 2-1 Lyons with a game-high 22 points despite falling into foul trouble early in the game.
Amherst trailed 12-5 with 16:55 remaining in the first half but went on a 21-4 run over the next 11 minutes, as Justice went to the bench with her second personal foul. Mount Holyoke managed to cut the lead to 28-24 at the half, but Amherst pulled away after the break leading by as many as 24 down the stretch.
The Jeffs were a solid 8-for-19 (42.1%) from the 3-point territory and cleaned house on the boards, outrebounding Mount Holyoke 66-37, including a 36-10 margin on the offensive glass. First-year forwards Sarah Bergman (Shaftsbury, VT) and Caitlin Farrell (Lafayette, CA) pulled down 15 and 12 boards, respectively, in their collegiate debut, while sophomore center Sarah Walker (West Hartford, CT) added 13 rebounds and 11 points. Rookie guard Shannon Russell (Shrewsbury, MA) chipped in 14 points on the strength of four 3-pointers. Senior Co-captain Charlotte Taylor (Harvard, MA) also had a game-high five assists for the Jeffs.
Amherst returns to action at non-league foe Keene State tomorrow (Wednesday) night at 7 p.m.
